In general, Rome is believed to be a safe and quiet city, where everything is sodden with a relaxing and calm atmosphere. In spite of this fact there is a great number of those who are ready to come to your rescue in any time and in any undertaking. Among them are the policemen, the firemen, the traffic wanders.

The streets of Rome are full with policemen, all being worn in uniforms and usually with those high-crowned shiny-peaked "Nazi Hats". All of them have guns, so they are ready to protect and establish order in case of any emergency.

In addition to the normal police streets of Rome are guarded by "Carabiniers", worn in very flashy uniforms with a white trademark across their breasts and a huge gold motif on their hats. They are also armed to the teeth with their guns.

All of the members of Roman police are really professional and competent in their trade, so don't be surprised when you are asking to show your "ID", as sometimes they want to check the person of this or that traveler.

Since the year of 2000 the subway train network in Rome is also guarded by private commercial forces, dressed in blue uniformed and armed with automatic pistols.

As you see, there is no need to worry your head about your security when staying in Rome, as the police of this city is really diligent, decent, and helpful. Besides, they know their work very well.
