罗马 意大利 Public Transport

Public Transport

Taking into consideration that very fact that Rome is a really huge city, the importance of the public transport becomes obvious. On one hand, it is pleasant, of course, to explore and admire Rome's memorable laces on foot, one the other, it will be a real undertaking for everyone without using the public transport as the territory of the city is really immense. You'll spend for about an hour, for instance, in order to get to the Vatican from the central railway station!

Fortunately, Rome is served by two subways, a lot of bus lines, and a number of urban and suburban railways. Buses, trams, trains, and subways cover the central part and suburbs of the city of Rome and provide an easy access and fast connection with international and national railways.

The fastest way of reaching almost any place in Rome is by metro, of course. Rome's subway disposes of two lines: "A" and "B", which cross the city in an X-shape direction, and thanks to this very dislocation almost all the major places and establishments are close to the subway stations, what make them easy and conveniently accessible.

Spagna is the busiest subway station and that is why it is linked with another one, named the Spanish Steps, by a long underground passage, located below the Pincio Hill. It is a real pros during the rush hours, as a number of those who wish to use metro is an enormous one.

The city of Rome offers a network of about 200 buses, serving the whole urban and suburban areas. But it is a real problem to get by bus in the centre of the city during the peak hours. Tramway lines are very few but still they exist and are even more popular than the buses during the rush hours, as they can't get stuck in the traffic gem or a traffic tail.
